While talking to the media persons, FawadChaudhry said that the MD PTV should tender resignation himself as even the members of the Senate Committee on Information and Broadcasting have also voiced for the incumbent MD's removal from office. The PTV Headquarter has been closed for 23 days and he could not tackle the situation arose within the state-owned television despite getting full-fledged salary along with other perks and privileges, he said.
Sources said that Fawad Chaudhry is likely to hold a special meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday on the issues of PTV along with the differences arising within the senior wings of PTI on the issue.
While replying to a question regarding a letter sent to the Prime Minister by the PTV Board to separate PTV from Information Ministry, he said the PTV board works under an elected chairman; however, there is no chairman appointed currently.
To another question about the differences arising within PTI with respect to Special Assistant to the PM on Political Affairs with the status of the minister of state Naeem-ul-Haque, he said this is an 'inside' matter of PTI.
Chaudhry was of the opinion that the appointment of the present managing director of PTV was not in line with the Supreme Court's decision in the case of former MD Atta-ul-HaqQasmi.
Divisions and rifts within the media team of the government surfaced last week when Chaudhry during a visit to PTV centre heresaid some special assistants and advisers to the PM are backing the incumbent MD who is taking a huge salary package despite the financial crisis the PTV is facing.
The minister said that PTV's financial position is crippling and it is not even able to pay monthly pensions amounting to a few thousand rupees to former employees, but at the same time, a senior person is getting more than Rs2.5 million per month which is unfair.
He said that delay in the release of pensions and medical bills is due to the financial crunch which the PTV is facing while the perks and privileges enjoyed by top officials are creating hatred among the employees against the management.
The employees had been protesting against measures taken by the PTV management in relation to medical bills.
In a surprising move, Fawad Chaudhry also sought help from former information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb in resolving the issues within PTV. The sources said that a meeting in this regard was held at the chamber of Fawad Chaudhry in which they discussed the issues within the PTV.
Earlier, Fawad Chaudhry said that the transfer of money from Pakistan Television's accounts warrants proceeding under Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
Fawad Chaudhry on Friday ordered to lodge a First Information Report (FIR) against the MD PTV over transfer of hefty amount from its account, after the matter was raised by the workers union of the PTV that a heavy amount has been transferred from the state television's account under the title of 'salaries disbursement'.
Special Assistant to the PM on Political Affairs Naeemul Haque on Sunday, however, tweeted, "The Prime Minister has full confidence in the Board of PTV and its management and believes PTV should be an independent organisation like BBC and the government will take all steps necessary towards that end."
It is important to mention that Chaudhry had raised concerns on the performance of the PTV's board of governors and even fell out with PTI leader Naeem-ul-Haq, when he made a statement in favour of PTV.
